Bridge deck pour Roe Berkshire

Bridge deck poured

After the successful installation of bridge beams in July, the project team working on the Roe Highway / Berkshire Road interchange recently poured the concrete bridge deck. This deck will eventually cater for Roe Highway traffic travelling uninterrupted over Berkshire Road.

With the use of two concrete boom pumps, the concrete was poured onto the bridge beams, creating the deck. The pour was best suited to take place in the early hours of the morning due to the large quantity of concrete that had to be poured at a rate of about 60 cubic metres per hour.

Around 200 cubic metres of concrete and 53 tonnes of steel was used in the bridge deck, which roughly has a surface area equivalent to the size of an Olympic swimming pool.
