Commitment to sustainability recognised
The Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project was recently recognised for its commitment to sustainability after being awarded an excellent certification for design by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA).
Gateway WA is committed to contributing positively towards the local environment, the community and the greater economic development of the state across the life of its infrastructure.
The design of the road network around the Perth Airport and the Kewdale Industrial Precinct was undertaken by the Gateway WA project team with the mindset to drive sustainability where possible by making decisions and implementing practices that seek environmental, social and economic benefits.
This included the design of special concrete bath structures at the Tonkin Highway / Leach Highway interchange where a shallow design has led to less dewatering being required during construction. The urban design of the project’s Grand Gateway will also lead to sustainable benefits where the visual impact will lead to enhancing the social well-being of road users.
The certification highlights how Gateway WA implemented sustainable solutions from the outset which will provide long-term benefits going forward.
