Final bridge beam lift

The bridge beams for the last of Gateway WA’s 11 bridges were hoisted into position recently.

Four beams, with the heaviest beam weighing 168 tonnes, were lifted by two crawler cranes over Roe Highway. Strong winds led to the work being carried out across three nights.

The bridge will allow future Tonkin Highway southbound traffic to access Roe Highway westbound without stopping. This free-flow movement is an integral part of the Tonkin Highway / Roe Highway interchange upgrade.

The Tonkin Highway / Roe Highway interchange is scheduled to be finished next year. To view the final interchange movements, please see the interchange map here.

Last week’s bridge beam lift was a milestone for the Gateway WA project. Further bridge beams will be placed by the project team as part of the construction of the Roe Highway / Berkshire Road interchange which is further to the original project scope.
