First bridge getting ready for traffic
The Leach Highway / Abernethy Road interchange bridge is making swift progress with work being undertaken this upcoming weekend to realign traffic onto the new bridge. This is the first new bridge on the Gateway WA project for the travelling public to use.
Piling, the installation of bridge beams and the pouring of the bridge deck has led to the bridge’s structure progressing at a rapid rate over the last few months. The focus lately has been on earthworks to excavate under the bridge for the ultimate Leach Highway alignment approaches to the bridge and pavement construction activities to advance the ramps.
The Leach Highway / Abernethy Road intersection will be temporarily realigned to open up a new work area on the eastern side of the bridge. This will allow the final section of the bridge to be completed by the team. The realignment will take traffic on Abernethy Road over the new bridge, making it the first traffic movement on a new Gateway WA bridge.
To facilitate this realignment, changed traffic conditions are required on Leach Highway and Abernethy Road over the weekend. This will allow the team to complete the construction of the intersection and realign the traffic.
For more information on the upcoming weekend closure please see the traffic notice with alternative routes.
