Skinner Lane finished in the Western Zone

The Western Zone team is making headway in the Kewdale Industrial Precinct with the recent completion of Skinner Lane indicating further progress.

Western Zone Project Engineer Johan Pratomo said the team had been working on Skinner Lane since late last year and developed it in four stages up until its recent completion. Mr Pratomo said Skinner Lane was the first place for bitumen stabilised limestone (BSL) to be used as the pavement type by the team in the precinct for the Gateway WA project.

“We were able to gauge what the material was like to work with before rolling it out for the rest of the area,” he said.

Work was required on Skinner Lane to allow the construction of Leach Highway between Orrong Road and the Perth Airport into an expressway standard be realised. The lane provides access to businesses on Leach Highway, between Abernethy Road and Burchell Way, which previously used the highway as an entry point.

The team will now focus on the installation of new traffic signals at the Orrong Road / Division Street / Ballantyne Road intersection which is the last of three new signalised intersections being installed in the Western Zone, Mr Pratomo said. New traffic signals were recently made operational at the Miles Road / Kewdale Road intersection.

Further work on the upgrade of Abernethy Road / Kewdale Road and Fenton Street / Kewdale Road intersections is continuing. Other ongoing works in the industrial area include the installation of road network drainage, road pavement construction and realignment of services.
