Travel time savings
Travel times in the Gateway WA project area have reduced for road users and are set to decrease further as the project moves towards full completion.
A combination of free flow movements through some of the interchanges, along with the expansion of Tonkin Highway into six lanes, has contributed to a reduction in congestion and the public’s time travelling through the area as a result.
Last year, travel times in the project area had decreased by 10 per cent in comparison to before the project started. This trend has continued into 2016 as construction in the project’s Southern Zone takes a step closer to completion each day.
The safe and efficient movement of goods and people was an objective of the Gateway WA project since its inception. As one of Western Australia’s most important transport hubs, savings in travel times benefit the freight industry, airport passengers and the wider community.
