Upcoming weekend closure of Tonkin Highway/Hale Road intersection

A weekend closure of the Tonkin Highway/Hale Road intersection is taking place to facilitate necessary work for its upgrade.

The intersection is being closed for asphalting, kerbing and finishing work across this upcoming weekend. Road users are advised to plan their journeys ahead and follow the detours in place. Please see the traffic notice on our major traffic changes module.

After the weekend work, there will be permanent restrictions in place for some traffic turning right from Tonkin Highway southbound into Hale Road. Only traffic that has travelled through the Tonkin Highway/Roe Highway interchange on Tonkin Highway southbound will be permitted to make this movement.

Vehicles that travel onto Tonkin Highway southbound from Roe Highway and the Abernethy on-ramp will not be allowed to turn right onto Hale Road. This is necessary to improve the safety of the intersection and to support the Tonkin Highway/Roe Highway interchange upgrade.

At the same time, traffic will begin to use the final alignment of Tonkin Highway southbound in the vicinity of the Tonkin Highway/Roe Highway interchange.

The Tonkin Highway/Roe Highway interchange will be finished by the end of next month in line with the overall Gateway WA project completion.
