Abernethy Road on-ramp to Tonkin Highway - Now open
The new on-ramp will provide immediate relief to the freight industry by cutting 3.7km off the current transport route to the regional network.
Where is it?
The new on-ramp will allow traffic direct access to Tonkin Highway (southbound) from Abernethy Road in Forrestfield.
How will it improve access?
The Abernethy Road on-ramp to Tonkin Highway will provide immediate relief to the freight industry by cutting 3.7km off the current transport route to the regional network.
Road users, in particular freight operators, will no longer need to wait at the heavily congested intersections of Leach Highway or Kewdale Road/Horrie Miller Drive in order to travel southbound on Tonkin Highway or to connect to Roe Highway.
What about out of gauge traffic?
The Abernethy Road on-ramp caters for high and wide loads and will also be used to service out of gauge traffic under police escort when necessary.
What else is happening?
An eight bay road train assembly and inspection area is currently being constructed adjacent to the on-ramp and is anticipated to be operational by early 2014, greatly improving safety and amenity for the freight industry.
