Western Zone traffic switch signifies progress
The realignment of Leach Highway traffic travelling eastbound between Orrong Road and Belmont Avenue has recently occurred which is a progressive step forward for upgrade work in the Western Zone.
Recent night time closures of the highway allowed the move of traffic onto the ultimate road alignment to take place. During these closures the team undertook works such as line marking, realigning the traffic barriers and constructing tie-in points for smooth transitions between the new and old alignments.
The realignment of the eastbound lanes opens up new work areas for the team to progress the construction of the ultimate alignment of the westbound lanes towards Fremantle.
The traffic switch is a significant development for Leach Highway which will become expressway standard between Orrong Road and Tonkin Highway when finished.
The Western Zone team is working towards the switching of the Leach Highway / Abernethy Road intersection. This intersection is to be shifted north of the existing intersection which will allow work on the new bridge and major earthworks for the interchange to commence in September.
